James Brown, M.D.

Dr. Brown is board certified in psychiatry with additional certification in child and adolescent psychiatry and has been in practice since 2005. Dr. Brown earned his B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 1996. He earned his M.D. from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2000. Dr. Brown completed his residency in psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 2000-2004. In addition, Dr. Brown completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship from 2004-2005. After completing his residency, Dr. Brown served in the United States Air Force from 2005-2009 as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan practicing both inpatient and outpatient care. Following his Air Force service, Dr. Brown relocated to North Carolina in 2009 and has been in private practice since that time. Dr. Brown’s practice is open to all children and adults 4 years of age and older and limited to outpatient treatment only.  Dr. Brown offers medication management and individual psychotherapy. Dr. Brown is married and has two children.

 

Melanie Tew, M.D.

Dr. Tew is board certified in psychiatry with additional certification in geriatric psychiatry and has been in practice since 2005. A native of North Carolina, Dr. Tew earned her B.S. in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University in 1996. She earned her M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. Dr. Tew completed her residency in psychiatry at UNC Hospital and Dorthea Dix Hospital from 2000-2004. In addition, Dr. Tew completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at Duke University from 2004-2005. Dr. Tew’s practice is open to all adults 18 and older and limited to outpatient treatment only. While all patients are welcome, special fields of interest include adult and geriatric psychopharmacology, depression, bipolar disorder, dementia and memory disorders, anxiety disorders and women’s issues. Dr. Tew offers medication management and individual psychotherapy. Dr. Tew is married and has two children.

 

Kellie Tolin, M.D.

Dr. Tolin is board certified in psychiatry and has been in practice since 2002. A native of Arkansas, Dr. Tolin earned her B.A. in Biology from Hendrix College in Arkansas in 1994. She earned her M.D. from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in 1998. Dr. Tolin completed her residency in psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 1998-2002. After completing her residency, Dr. Tolin served in the United States Air Force from 2002-2006 as the Medical Director of the Mental Health Clinic at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada practicing both inpatient and outpatient care as well as serving as a forensic consultant. Following her Air Force service, Dr. Tolin relocated to North Carolina in 2006 and has been in private practice since that time. Dr. Tolin’s practice is open to adolescents and adults age 16 and older and limited to outpatient treatment only. While all patients are welcome, special fields of interest include women’s mental health, psychological issues associated with medical illness, and post-traumatic stress. Dr. Tolin offers medication management and individual psychotherapy. Dr. Tolin is married and has two children.

 

April Fields, M.D.

Dr. Fields is board certified in psychiatry with additional training in child and adolescent psychiatry. A native of North Carolina, Dr. Fields earned her B.A. in Computer Science from Duke University in 1993. She earned her M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. Dr. Fields completed her residency in psychiatry at UNC in 2010. In addition, Dr. Fields completed a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UNC in 2011. Dr. Fields practice is open to children and adults age 5 and older and limited to outpatient treatment only. While all patients are welcome, special fields of interest include child and adolescent mental health, family and parent therapy, perinatal and postpartum mood disorders, identity and LGBT issues. Dr. Fields offers medication management and individual psychotherapy.
